BASF excursion

News added on 27 Nov 2014, written by Martijn

In the first week of November, the V.v.P. organized an excursion to BASF PU in Lemförde (Germany). BASF PU is part of the famous company BASF (the largest chemical company in the world according to Wikipedia), specializing in Polyurethane. Early in the morning, we set out with two minivans. After a warm welcome with coffee and cake (always a good start of an excursion), we were introduced in the basic processes occurring at the site.

After lunch, 4 of our own PhD students had a chance to present their work to scientists of BASF. Afterwards, we made a tour around the site, which included a visit to the research and development department, the pilot plant and the production site. Finally, we had a chance to have a discussion with researchers and group leaders/managers working at BASF and we could ask them everything we wanted to know. The BASF excursion was concluded with a very nice dinner at a very nice restaurant. Afterwards, a few people checked out the only bar in Lemförde and the nightlife of nearby Osnabrück.

On the second day no official program was planned. However, considering the nice weather, we decided to visit Bremen for a few hours. After a nice lunch and some site-seeing in the city, it was time to return to Groningen. After all, we can look back at a very successful excursion. With this we would also like to thank BASF for organizing the program and the polymer chemistry department for arranging transportation.

The picture gallery is now updated with photos from the BASF excursion. Furthermore, we’ve also uploaded the pictures of the Halloween drinks.
